Ballapana clay industry

This is currently functioning as a Juki training centre. Juki a brand name of commercial sewing
machines is used to refer to the fact that the training centre prepares the mostly female students to
work in the lucrative garment industry in Sri Lanka. The section which in the years gone by was a
busy clay factory is now in an utterly dilapidated state. The machinery and equipment covered in
dust and rust can be seen in a few buildings behind the Juki training centre.

Directions and location

When you come along the Colombo Kandy road stop at Ballapana and ask anyone, it’s easy to find as
it is on the main road.
